Friends on a private trip skiing untracked snow with an IFMGA mountain guide on a SwisSkiSafari winter safari in the Alps

The Alps, from the inside

A fully guided ski safari with the people who call these mountains home

There are places you only truly understand once you have lived in them. For us, that place is the high Alps—where Switzerland, Italy, and France meet between the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.

For twenty years, we at SwisSkiSafari have been creating fully guided, private ski safaris through this corner of the world. Every journey is tailor-made for a single party of guests, and every detail is designed and led by the people who know these mountains best: our own team, who live and work here all year round.

We live here

I’m Danielle Stynes, founder of SwisSkiSafari, and these valleys have been my home for two decades. My entire team lives here, too. We are here when the first snow falls, through the long winter, and when the same slopes turn green again in summer.

That is how we know which valley holds its snow after a warm spell, which family-run hotels and chalets will welcome our guests like old friends, and which local restaurants serve the finest regional specialties. You simply cannot learn that from a distance.

Our network is our secret

To us, luxury in the Alps isn’t about grand lobbies—it’s about access. And true access comes from friendship. Over twenty years, we have built close relationships with hoteliers, restaurateurs, winemakers, chefs, guides, and pilots across three countries, and they welcome our guests as they would welcome us.

A private cellar tasting, a long lunch of local specialties in a village spot, a table in a restaurant tourists never find… none of this appears in a brochure, yet it is so often what our guests remember most.

Under the skin of the Alps

We rarely stay in one resort. We prefer to move through the landscape—skiing terrain few people reach and traveling between valleys, villages, and countries. Our guests hear the language shift from French to Italian to German, taste wine grown on slopes they skied past that morning, and by the end of the week, they no longer feel like visitors. They feel let in.

Made for you, refined every day

Every journey starts with a conversation. From there, we build everything from scratch: the valleys, the hotels and chalets, each evening’s table, and the pace of each day. On the mountain, our IFMGA-certified guides lead the way, backed by our snow forecaster—trained at SLF, the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research—and our alpine helicopter pilots.

We plan months ahead, then fine-tune the trip day by day to follow the snow, the weather, and the mood of our guests. Because we are on the mountain with our guests every day, adapting to changing conditions comes naturally. It is simply part of how we guide.

The freedom to be present

What our guests tell us they value most is simply being able to switch off and be present while we take care of everything else. As we always say: One day we will not be able to do this, but today is not that day.

frequently asked questions

A fully guided luxury ski safari is a private, custom ski journey that travels through mountain ranges rather than staying in a single resort. Guests move between different valleys, alpine villages, and countries across Switzerland, Italy, and France. With SwisSkiSafari, every day on the mountain is led by IFMGA-certified local guides, while all logistics, accommodations, and dining are managed seamlessly behind the scenes.

SwisSkiSafari journeys are created and led by founder Danielle Stynes and a year-round local team based in the Swiss Alps. The team includes IFMGA-certified mountain guides, SLF-trained snow forecasters, and alpine helicopter pilots whose long-standing local relationships grant guests exclusive access beyond standard resort offerings.

SwisSkiSafari operates across the high Alps of Switzerland, Italy, and France, spanning the regions between the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, including the Chamonix Valley. The team lives and operates directly from the Swiss Alps.

Yes. Every SwisSkiSafari trip is exclusively private and tailor-made for your specific group of family or friends. The itinerary, daily skiing pace, accommodation, and dining are customised entirely around your preferences.

Every itinerary is built from scratch following an initial consultation. We select valleys, boutique hotels, private chalets, mountain routes, and evening dining based on your group’s skiing level, interests, and desired daily rhythm.

Because the SwisSkiSafari team is on the mountain with you every day, itineraries are dynamically adapted in real time. We adjust routes and regions day by day to align with current weather, snow safety conditions, and your group’s energy.

SwisSkiSafari caters to intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders who enjoy exploration. Groups typically travel with peers of similar ability, but our guides are skilled at managing varying ability levels within a group so everyone has a rewarding experience. Heli-skiing can also be integrated during the trip for eligible skiers upon guide assessment.

Absolutely. Non-skiing guests enjoy tailored daily itineraries, including private visits with local winemakers, artisans, and village hosts, as well as joint lunches at mountain meeting points with the skiing group.

The winter ski season runs from mid-December through early April. Because every private ski safari is custom-built and uses exclusive local properties, we recommend beginning the planning process one season in advance.
