Luxury surfing expeditions have come a long way
Our guests love both a challenge and accomplishment, but they are also discerning and appreciate our attention to detail when it comes to safety and comfort. Tropicsurf is an Australian company founded in a UNESCO Biosphere beach town called Noosa Heads. We pioneered our ‘art of luxury surfing’ which is the business of helping people of all levels experience the thrills of surfing, enjoyed from a five-star base camp or yacht. Now we surf from seaplanes to discover certain surf breaks, use private yachts to surf areas in the Pacific where you will never see another surfer, let alone a tourist. We have partnered with some of the world’s most remote and luxurious hotels. We are proud to have pioneered the concept of luxury surfing and the development of a 10-level teaching system to help people learn, advance and have more fun. This gives them the skills to be able to surf new destinations and take on more surfing challenges.

Surfing is difficult so our goal is to make it easy for you. We have spent over 3 decades figuring out the most effective methodology for surfers to learn and accelerate their skills. We have also perfected the guided luxury surfing expedition. The ocean can be a bit daunting for many people so it’s extremely satisfying when we can share what we love and what we are good at and at the same time help and inspire other people to step out of their comfort zone and experience both the thrills and the therapy that the ocean can provide.

The surfing bug bit me hard at age six
My grandfather lived near the beach. I’d never experienced anything so infatuating. I went on to train at university as an Outdoor Education teacher. So teaching is the skill that is at the heart of my company. In a pivotal moment of my life, I decided to dedicate my career to sharing the secrets of the ocean with others. In 1993, while alone at Sunset Beach, Hawaii, I realised that dodging huge west peaks and riding the biggest-best waves of my life was not enough. It is the passing on of my knowledge to people, helping them catch the biggest waves of their lives and the solidarity and buzz of this that is priceless. It’s the sharing of knowledge, passion, thrills, spills and camaraderie that fulfils me, more than surfing for myself. Over 3 decades later, my company Tropicsurf continues to follow this ethos.

After tuning up our surf skills we ventured out into a frontier where not many people get to go. The scenery was outrageous and we rode virgin surf breaks that were only for us. On the same trip we all took a free-diving course. We stand up paddled through giant canyons and learned how to do a floating meditation. It was a transformational trip, not just for the guests but also for myself. I don’t think we saw any other surfers or tourists the entire time.

Surfing is extremely complicated and variable. You need to take into consideration wave size, winds, tides, board designs, personal fitness, comfort zones and much more. After more than three decades of experience in the ocean we can help guests learn the new skill of surfing or take on new surfing challenges. We help them enjoy being out of their comfort zone without the fear, knowing that we are by their side to help them progress, have fun, learn and experience the magic of being in the ocean waves. I am proud of the depth of professionalism that we have consolidated over our years of dedication to this profession.
