What value shines through in your work?
My passion in everything I create is that it must be handmade, rooted in tradition and honouring cultural sensibility. I get personally involved in every step — from sourcing raw materials to design, from the first sketch to the final quality control in our little couture atelier. Each piece carries my heart, soul, creativity, and love; I try to embroider an essence into every creation, a DNA that belongs to the brand itself. These are not just garments or accessories, but heirlooms, designed to be cherished and handed down through generations.
Can you share your story?
I am a Kenyan self-taught designer, the daughter of German immigrants. Over time, my heritage has receded into the background as my cultural identity rooted in Kenya has become who I am. I was, quite literally, raised by the village. That experience shaped my sense of belonging and grounded me in the value of handmade craft. I have always been fascinated by how humans, earth, and spirit come together in what we create for adornment — historically for ceremony, for rites of passage, and for identity.
What do you create?
For more than three decades I have been building an artisanal luxury fashion and lifestyle brand in Kenya. Each piece is individually handmade, using only the finest raw materials, and conceived as an authentic work of art. My collection includes garments, exotic leather bags, beaded sandals, feather-trimmed shawls and more. While indigenous designs from cultures around the world inspire me, the traditions of the Maasai and Samburu tribes lie at the very heart of my creativity. To purchase one of our creations is to step into an authentic Africa — my home, my vision of it — a homecoming for those who already love it, or an initiation for those just beginning to discover it.
What is your favourite part of the process?
For me, creation is a form of alchemy. I love being immersed in every detail, ensuring that nothing is left to chance. From the beginning I built strong, lasting relationships with raw material suppliers, many of which endure to this day. I study tribal history, environments, rites and rituals, and translate them into timeless, wearable heirlooms. These are not simply ethnic or boho chic pieces. They are statements of identity and authenticity, designed to speak as much about the woman who wears them as about their own provenance. I believe there is great power in expressing ourselves through what we wear, and today more than ever, there is a hunger for creations that feel both empowering and true.
